We have been having a great summer here in the Children's Corner and we hope that you have been enjoying yours as well! Please continue to check our calendar for programs and registration information. Thank you for participating in our program - it is wonderful to see all of of you, especially those who we don't get to see as often during the school year.

Let's Dance!

Put on your dancing shoes and join us for a week of being creative through dance. Here is a list of the programs that are happening for the week of June 6th. We look forward to seeing YOU at the library soon!

*Practice your reading with a book buddy.

Saturday
*Drop in for Stories on a Saturday - summer style!

Remember to drop by the Children's department to have one of us check in your journal and talk to you about what you've been reading. We'll invite you to play the "Know Your Library" scavenger hunt and award you a great prize at the end!

If you haven't yet registered for the Summer Reading Program, there is still time to do so. Just go to our website (http://www.spartalibrary.com/) and click on the date of June 23. Stop by and pick up your journal and begin a summer of fun here at the library!

Here's what's happening in the Children's Department next week (June 29 - July 5):

MONDAY
*Why not learn how to knit? Join us for Summer Stitches for ages 8 and up.

TUESDAY
*Let's Create! Make a craft based on this week's theme.

WEDNESDAY
*Let's Design - a special night of crafts for kids.

THURSDAY
* Drop in for a story today! Busy Babies and Toddle Time require no registration.

*Join Ms. Gebhard for Read-With-Me, a storytime for children in PreK - K. Don't forget to bring your journal so we can color in your circle!

*Want to practice your reading over the summer? We have a book buddy for you! Sign up today!

Be sure to check our website (www.spartalibrary.com) for when we will be here to help you with all of your summer reading needs.

If you can't attend any of our scheduled programs, please be sure to come by the Children's department to have your journal checked and play our weekly game. This week's prize is almost as good as Guitar Hero!

Summer Reading Program

Summer Reading is vital to your child maintaining their reading skills over the summer. This seven week program allows for you to participate in as much or as little as your summer schedule allows. Come with us and explore the world of creativity through art, music, dance, theater and BOOKS! The program is open to Sparta Public Library cardholders only. Children from four to twelve years of age can participate in a variety of events throughout the program. We have a fun and exciting summer planned with performers, crafts, storytimes, games and prizes. We hope that you will join us for all the fun! Registration begins on Monday, June 1 at 8:30am. Please see the calendar of events posted at www.spartalibrary.com to register for the program and the events offered.

Read with Me - PreK (4 years old) - Kindergarten

Pick up a journal during the week of June 23 and begin reading with someone you love! We encourage our youngest listeners to read for 20 minutes with a partner and keep track of it in the journal provided. At the start of the new week, stop by the library to tell us about the stories you’ve been enjoying all week long. Don’t forget to play a library skills game and win a prize!

Independent Readers - Grades 1 thru 7 (Fall, 2009)

Pick up your journal during the week of June 23 and begin reading! We encourage everyone to read 20 minutes per day and log it in their journal. At the beginning of the new week, stop by the Children’s Department and have your journal “checked”. We’ll talk to you about you’ve read and you can play a library skills game and win a special prize!
